It has always been a difficult decision even for OTS management to deploy our Security Screening Officers during crisis such as this. We fully understood the health risks, the sacrifices they have to make in order to make themselves available for passengers who needed to be secured as they travel back home to their families. We have not taken all these things lightly. We know for sure, that they too, wanted to stay home, and be with their families to address their respective personal and family concerns. And we have fully appreciated all the sacrifices of the frontliners, most especially our “kabaro”, mga SSOs na parating andyan kapag kinailangan ang serbisyo.
On our part, we have ordered for the procurement of additional personal protective equipment for our frontliners. It may have taken some time due to its unavailability in the market, but as soon as we got them, we immediately ordered for its distribution. These kits include items such as vitamins, alcohol and face masks.
We have also provided service vehicles to ferry them as public transportation have become limited these days. Temporary shelters and decent sleeping quarters are likewise prepared to welcome OTS personnel so they need not go home after a long day’s work should they opt to.
Yes, we have heard you. Our time will not expire leaving this unaddressed: salary pay hike and hazard pay for OTS frontlines. Even our dear DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade vowed to help us expedite the process and bring this into fruition. It is just a matter of time.
As for health benefits, the OTS management had ordered its Administrative and Finance Service to immediately act upon the needs of its workers. Trust that processing of PhilHealth benefits will be expedited. As it is in the past, there were already surveys conducted among OTS personnel for the corporate health cards deductible to employees’ salary.
